ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Arnaldo Garcia

Arnaldo Garcia was born in Valença, RJ. He studied electronic engineering at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, where he graduated in mathematics. He obtained his Masters and PhD degrees at IMPA, where he is an Associate Researcher. His research is  on algebraic function fields. He is a supporter of the America soccer club and a fan of the Estação Primeira da Mangueira samba school.

Yves Lequain

Yves Lequain is French from Lille, where he began his studies in Mathematics, which he finished in the United States, obtaining his PhD at the University of Louisiana, in Baton Rouge. He came to Rio de Janeiro in 1970 to spend one year; having discovered the sun (unknown to the residents of Lille), he stayed  to enjoy it. His research area is commutative algebra.
