ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Paulo Ribenboim

He was born in Recife in 1928. He was a disciple of Antonio Monteiro in Brazil, Jean Dieudonné in France, Wolfgang Krull in Germany. He was a researcher at IMPA from 1956 to 1959. He had an international career, mainly in the United States, France and Canada, where he taught at Queen’s University. He is wrote more than 200 papers as well as many books , among them: “13 Lectures on Fermat’s Last Theorem”, “Fermat’s Last Theorem for Amateurs”, “The New Book of Prime Number Records”, “My Numbers, My Friends”, “Classical Theory of Algebraic Numbers”, “The Theory of Classical Valuatives”. He won the Pólya Prize in expository mathematics. He is Honorary Doctor of the University of Caen and Member of the Academy of Sciences of The Royal Society of Canada.
