ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Jacob Palis
Jacob Palis was born in Uberaba, Minas Gerais, graduated with honours in Civil Engineering than in Economics at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He began his studies of mathematics at the Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada (IMPA), obtained a Master and a Doctor degrees at The University of California, Berkeley. He is Researcher Emeritus of IMPA and Full Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, received the prize Moinho Santista of Mathematics in 1976. Edited the notes “Seminário de Sistemas Dinâmicos”, published by IMPA. Is one of the editors of the Bulletin of the Brazilian Society of Mathematics.
His research works are about stability and bifurcations of the Dynamic Systems.
Welington de Melo
Welington de Melo was born in Guapé, MG. Graduated in Electrical Engineering at the Federal University of Minas Gerais and obtained the Doctor degree in mathematics at IMPA. Made Post-Doctoral courses at Berkeley, California and Warwick, England. He was a Full Researcher at IMPA.
His research works are about Dynamic Systems and Singularity of Differential Applications.
