ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Johann Baumaister
Born in Oberzeitldorn, in Baviera, Johann Baumeister obtained his PhD in 1974 at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and finished his habilitation in 1978 at the Freie Universität Berlin. Since 1979 he has a permanent position at the Goethe Universität Frankfurt, where he develops his academic and research activities.
He is the author of one of the first books on inverse problems (published by Vieweg in 1987), which influenced a whole generation of mathematicians. He is a zealous adviser, his door is always open to his students, welcoming them always with attention and patience.
Antonio Leitão
Born in Niterói, he graduated in computing at UFRJ, where he obtained his Master’s degree in mathematics, a passion that he never gave up. He was a professor at UFSC, which he left to get his Doctor degree at the Goethe Universität Frankfurt and for several visits to important research centers around the world.
He is the author of dozens of scientific papers and two books of the Brazilian Mathematics Colloquium at IMPA. When he is not working on his inseparable laptop, he can be found exercising thoroughly or enjoying the night in pleasant places (Lapa in Rio de Janeiro, Lagoa in Florianópolis, etc).
