DESCRIPTION

The book is an introduction to the differential geometry  of curves and surfaces in Euclidean space, with emphasis on the geometric content of the results, for students with basic knowledge of linear algebra and calculus in several variables.

In addition to covering the basics and the classical  results of the subject (such as the isoperimetric inequality and the Gauss-Bonnet theorem), it contains other topics of undeniable geometric interest, usually ignored in introductory books (curves and surfaces of constant width, classification of complete surfaces of non-negative constant curvature, for example), allowing a varied choice of additional topics for a first course in Differential Geometry.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Paulo Ventura Araújo

He was born in 1966 in the city of Porto, Portugal, where he always lived, except for three years in England to obtain his PhD. He graduated in 1988 in Mathematics at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto. In 1993, he obtained his PhD at the University of Warwick with a thesis on ergodic theory.

Since then his greatest interest is Geometry, having taught several courses and published several papers on this area.  Currently he is a professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto.
