ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Alcides Lins Neto
He was born in Belo Horizonte, MG, and was raised in Rio, where he graduated in electronic engineering at the Military Institute of Engineering. While studying engineering, he began his studies in mathematics at IMPA, where he obtained his Master’s and Doctor degrees.
He is a Full Researcher at IMPA, where he specializes on dynamical systems and holomorphic foliations, on which he has published several papers. He has delivered lectures in various congresses and in national and foreign universities. He is a full member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences.
Bruno Scárdua
He was born in Vitória, ES, obtained an B.Sc. in Mathematics at the Federal University of Espírito Santo in 1990. In this same year he came to IMPA where he obtained his Master’s degree in 1992 and Doctor degree in 1994, under the guidance of César Camacho. His research area is the application of geometric methods in the theory of singularities and foliations theory, real or complex. Currently he is Associate Professor at the Mathematics Institute of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He is a parent and a passionate supporter of Fluminense soccer club.
