ABOUT THE AUTHORS

The authors’ interest in Computing aroused around the late IBM 1620 computer, installed in 1962, in the  Centre of Numerical Calculation of the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo. They graduated as Electronics Engineers by that School. They post-graduated  abroad, obtaining their  Ph.D.  degrees in Computing.

Cláudio Lucchesi

Cláudio Lucchesi graduated in 1968 and obtained his Ph.D. degree at the University of Waterloo in 1976. He currently is a Professor at UNICAMP. His areas of interest are graph theory and synthesis of efficient algorithms.

Imre Simon

Imre Simon graduated in 1966 and obtained his Ph.D. degree at the University of Waterloo in 1972. Imre is a Professor at USP. His areas of interest are pseudovarieties of languages and semigroups, multiplicity of the tropical semiring theory, words, automata and algorithms.

Istvam Simon

Istvam Simon graduated in 1969 and obtained his Ph.D. degree at Stanford University in 1977, he was a Professor at USP. His areas of interest are analysis of algorithms and complexity theory.

Janos Simon

Janos graduated in 1969 and obtained his Ph.D. degree at Cornell University in 1974. He was a Professor at UNICAMP. His areas of interest are  computability theory and concrete complexity of algorithms.

Tomasz Kowaltowski

Tomasz graduated in 1966 and obtained his Ph.D. degree at the University of California, Berkeley in 1973. Tomasz was a Professor at USP and currently is director of the Computing Institute of UNICAMP. His areas of interest are design, implementation and semantics of programming languages and formal verification of correctness of programs.
