Chain Samuel Hönig
Chain Samuel Hönig born in Berlin came to Brazil as a child. He graduated in mathematics and physics from the University of São Paulo, where he obtained his PhD. He was in France, first as a post-doctoral student, then, for three years, as a visiting Professor. He is a full Professor at the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of São Paulo, and a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and of the Academy of Sciences of the State of São Paulo. He was a member of the CTC of CNPq and was the first President of the Brazilian Society of Mathematics. His research area is mathematical analysis (functional analysis, differential equations, integrity-Sobolev spaces, integration), but he has also published research papers on general topology, group theory, etc.
He is the author of several texts for undergraduate and graduate students: “Análise Funcional e Aplicações” (IME/USP), “Volterra Stieltjes-Integral Equations” (North-Holland Publ. Comp.), “Análise Funcional e o Problema de Sturm-Liouville” (IMPA), “Introdução às Funções de uma Variável Complexa” (IME/USP) etc. Creates ants and practices the Cooper method.
