ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Herivelto Borges
He graduated at USP, São Paulo, where he also obtained his Master’s degree. He decided to take a higher flight (literally) and moved to Texas University, Austin where he obtained his doctor degree under the guidance of Felipe Voloch, after a post-doctoral internship at UNICAMP he returned to his roots and became professor at USP in São Carlos.
He works on algebraic curves defined on finite fields, not disregarding the applications to finite geometry and combinatorics. In his spare time he enjoys teaching algebra to his dog.
Eduardo Tengan
ET, as he is known by his friends because of his good mood and his personality of the “other world” had his talent for mathematics discovered early by the Mathematics Olympiads. After experiencing engineering course, he realized that he would like to take his interest in the Queen of Sciences for life. He obtained his doctors degrees at Emory University. Yes, he defended two theses: one on Graph Theory and the other on Algebra.
He assures that the determining factor in the decision to face two doctorates was having watched an episode of a Japanese animation!!! Surprised? Those that know professor Tengan, aren’t. A professor at USP-São Carlos, he is one of the creators of the “Cool Stuff Seminar” at the Institute of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, which shows his vision of how mathematical study and research should be.
