Tenure-track positions and postdoctoral fellowship

 

The “Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada” (IMPA) is accepting applications for one tenure-track position in all areas of Pure, Applied and Industrial Mathematics. The positions will initially involve a trial period, with the potential for transition to permanent researcher evaluated during the first four years. The monthly salary is estimated to be between R$ 25,668.57 and R$ 35,154.49.

  • names and emails of at least three researchers who have familiarity with the candidate’s work and are able to recommend it. The assigned researchers will receive an e-mail message containing the applicant’s information and instructions on how to submit their letter of recommendation.

Postdoctoral Fellowship in Mathematics

IMPA is selecting three postdoctoral fellows for 2025. This is a two-year position, which may be renewed for one more year by mutual agreement between IMPA and the fellow. The fellowship provides a tax-free stipend of R$ 9,000.00, accompanied by an additional monthly stipend of R$ 1,000.00 to support academic travels.

The position is open to applicants from all areas of Mathematics, both pure and applied. To be eligible for this position, applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Mathematics or related areas, with a thesis defended within the last 10 years or a thesis defense expected by August 2025. It is important to note that former IMPA students will be considered eligible only if their thesis defense was completed more than 3 years before the application opening. 

The selected candidate will have the freedom to pursue their own research program and will be required to teach at least one graduate course per year. Collaboration and engagement with IMPA students and researchers are strongly encouraged.
