Tenure-track positions and postdoctoral fellowship

The “Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada” (IMPA) is accepting applications for two tenure-track positions in Applied Mathematics. The positions will initially involve a trial period, with the potential for transition to permanent researcher evaluated during the first four years. The monthly salary is estimated to be between R$ 24,714.59 and R$ 33,847.99.

We are seeking candidates with outstanding research records in Applied Mathematics or related areas such as Data Science, Statistics, Computer Graphics, Fluid Dynamics, Mathematical Economics, Optimization and Operations Research. Applications demonstrating potential for collaboration with industry, in a broad sense, are particularly encouraged.

Postdoctoral Fellowship in Mathematics

The “Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada” (IMPA) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, announces a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Mathematics. This is a two-year position, which may be renewed for one more year by mutual agreement between IMPA and the fellow. The fellowship provides a tax-free stipend of R$ 9,000.00, accompanied by an additional monthly stipend of R$ 1,000.00 to support academic travels.

The position is open to applicants from all areas of Mathematics, both pure and applied. To be eligible for this position, applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Mathematics or related areas, with a thesis defended within the last 10 years or a thesis defense expected by August 2024.

It is important to note that former IMPA students will be considered eligible only if their thesis defense was completed more than 3 years before the application opening. The selected candidate will have the freedom to pursue their own research program and will be required to teach at least one graduate course per year. Collaboration and engagement with IMPA students and researchers are strongly encouraged.
