International Symposium on Differential Geometry

In honor of Marcos Dajczer on his 60^th birthday

IMPA, Rio de Janeiro, de 17/08 até 21/08, 2009

The symposium, promoted by IMPA and the Instituto Nacional de Ciência e Teconolgia de Matemática – INCTMat, will be held at IMPA, Rio de Janeiro, during the week August 17-21, 2009. All lectures will be delivered by speakers invited by the Scientific Committee. Some areas in Differential Geometry focused by the conference will be Lie groups and algebras and their representations, minimal and CMC surfaces, geodesic flows, isometric and conformal immersions, symmetric spaces, compact manifolds with positive sectional curvature and Morse theory.

The conference has been approved for a grant from the National Science Foundation that will cover travel expenses for participants from the United States. Application for travel support should be sent to Wolfgang Ziller at wziller@math.upenn.edu. Graduate students and recent postdocs are particularly encouraged to apply. In case of graduate students, please ask your advisor for a letter of recommendation sent to above e-mail address as well. The deadline for applications is July 15^th.
