Project Scientist at Centro Pi

General Information

  • The Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) opens applications for the position of project scientist at the Center for Projects and Innovation – Centro Pi.
  • The career corresponds to a permanent position, which plays a central role in the activities of the Pi Centre.

Main objectives

  • Accelerate knowledge transfer to the public and private sectors,
  • Produce technical and scientific breakthroughs inspired by interactions with external partners
  • Provide educational opportunities for our students

Main responsibilities

  • carry out the capture, coordination and execution of technological projects in the field of mathematical sciences;
  • produce technical-scientific knowledge materialized in research articles and technical reports;
  • teach courses and supervise technological internships, master’s dissertations and doctoral theses;
  • disseminate knowledge through books, videos, lectures and events;
  • contribute to academic and institutional management through participation in IMPA commissions and councils;

Wage

  • The monthly base salary of the position ranges from R$ 12,834.28 to R$ 17,577.25 (gross amounts), to be complemented with funds from projects carried out at Centro Pi, up to a maximum monthly total between R$ 38,502.84 and R$ 46,366.19 (gross amounts).

Qualifications

  • Highly qualified professionals with a doctorate in mathematics, statistics, computing, engineering, or a related field
  • Have proven ability to capture and coordinate technological partnership projects with companies and other entities
  • To generate and improve knowledge in the area of applications of mathematical sciences
  • Contribute to the dissemination of this knowledge

      • Statement describing your research and your interests in the project. If applicable, include a list of the applicant’s publications and information on previous scientific and industrial projects (with links to articles and public code repositories, if available);
      • names and contact emails of three experts who are familiar with the applicant’s work and can write letters of reference. If possible, at least one of these consultants should come from industry and one from academia.
  • The deadline for applications is 16 May 2025. The results will be announced by July 4, 2025. The selected candidate is expected to start his activities at IMPA at any time from August to December 2025.
