It is a semi-presential course, with a national offer, carried out by a network of Higher Education Institutions (including IMPA) in the context of the Open University of Brazil, coordinated by the Brazilian Mathematical Society (SBM).

PROFMAT is aimed at mathematics teachers working in basic education, especially in public schools, who are looking to improve their professional training, with an emphasis on in-depth mastery of mathematical content relevant to their teaching work. The program operates on a large scale, with the aim of having a substantial impact on teachers’ mathematical training throughout the country in the medium term.

Admission to the Professional Master’s in Mathematics in the National Network is through an annual entrance exam organized by the Brazilian Mathematical Society.
