The Book Fair
Since 2022, the Book Fair has been held in São Paulo’s Charles Miller Square.
The event brings free debates on various topics to the public square, such as literature, society, science, human rights, culture and history.
It also hosts a book fair, bringing together publishers, bookstores and socio-cultural institutions linked to books and reading.
IMPA’s director-general, Marcelo Viana, has been participating as a guest author since 2024, connecting literary culture and scientific knowledge by participating in debates on the dissemination of science and the democratization of mathematics for society.

Mathematical mindsets
The Mathematical Mentalities (MM) program is a co-creation of the Sidarta Institute and Youcubed Research Center at Stanford University. The program offers solutions that strengthen mathematics with more meaning, which effectively transforms the trajectory of our young people and contributes significantly to the growth of our country.
IMPA collaborates with the dissemination of ideas aligned with the principles of the MM, supports the implementation of projects and actions, assists in the dialogue with other institutions, the exchange of experiences in complementary areas and institutional support for the program.

International Meeting of Recreational Mathematics in Portuguese
September 9-12, 2026
Federal University of Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte – MG
The 1st International Meeting of Recreational Mathematics in Portuguese(EnIMaR) is dedicated to reflection, dialog and the sharing of experiences on the role of recreational mathematics in the global mathematical panorama, especially in teaching, teacher training and scientific dissemination.
The meeting is organized by the UFMG Mathematics Museum, in partnership with the Ludus Association (Portugal), and in addition to IMPA, it also has financial support from CAPES and CNPq.
EnIMaR’s program includes lectures, round tables, oral communications, workshops, reports on experiences, poster sessions, a display of materials and cultural activities, addressing different perspectives on Recreational Mathematics and its publications in the educational context in Brazil and in Portuguese-speaking countries such as Portugal, Mozambique and Angola. Folhinha - Folha de SPaulo
Since 2023, IMPA and Folha de São Paulo have had a partnership to stimulate children’s reasoning and logic.
The Math Challenge column in Caderno Folhinha features a logic quiz every week. The challenge is published in both the print and digital versions of the newspaper and aims to stimulate children’s thinking, creativity and fun.
Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC)
Founded in 1916, the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC) is the largest association of scientists in the country, promoting the advancement and dissemination of science, technology and innovation. It brings together leading researchers from different fields of knowledge and works to formulate public policies, defend Brazilian science and promote scientific education.
IMPA maintains a historical relationship with the ABC, with several of its researchers elected as full members of the institution for the development of mathematics and the exact sciences in the country. Emeritus IMPA scientists such as Maurício Peixoto and Jacob Palis held the presidency of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences during the 1980s and early 2000s, respectively.
All Mathematics National Commitment
The Toda Matemática National Commitment is a 2025 initiative of the Ministry of Education (MEC) that aims to strengthen the quality of mathematics teaching in basic education throughout the country, as provided for in the Common National Curriculum Base (BNCC).
The project recognizes the subject as an essential tool for student development and seeks to reduce regional, socio-economic, ethnic-racial and gender inequalities in learning through technical-pedagogical and financial support, as well as the production of guidance and assessment materials.
Actively participating in the construction and implementation of the program, IMPA hosted the 1st National Seminar of the Toda Matemática Commitment, with the launch of teacher training actions (such as the OBMEP Mirim Teacher Olympics), and pedagogical materials (such as the Governance and Training Guide for Early Years Teachers), contributing with its historical experience in the continuation of pedagogical practices aimed at Brazilian mathematics education, in connection with the Institute’s already consolidated initiatives, such as OBMEP.
