Workshop will offer mathematical solutions to companies.

Like many other widely used technologies today, Facebook, Google, and even the internet sprouted from scientific projects carried out in universities and research institutes. This proves that collaborations between these two sectors can be fruitful for both sides. With the aim of further stimulating this dialogue, IMPA is holding the 7th Workshop on Mathematical Solutions for Industrial Problems from September Fridays to 10th . Registration is free and must be completed by August 30th through the institute's institutional system .

Held in a virtual format, the event is organized by the IMPA Center for Projects and Innovation (Centro Pi) in partnership with the Center for Research, Innovation and Dissemination of Mathematical Sciences Applied to Industry (CEPID-CeMEAI) of ICMC-USP. Researchers, undergraduate and graduate students in the fields of mathematics, statistics and computer science, as well as managers and researchers from companies can register to participate in the workshop.

Throughout the week of the event, participants will divide into groups and work to find and propose solutions to real-world industry problems in the areas of data science, artificial intelligence, geostatistics, statistics, econometrics, and asymptotic behavior. On the other hand, participating companies will bring to the workshop issues to be resolved, such as optimizing investment portfolios in funds, predictive models for grain exports, automation in Human Resources, and detecting overpricing of goods from invoices, among others.

The Director-General of IMPA, Marcelo Viana, and the Director of Technology of the Rio de Janeiro State Research Foundation (FAPERJ), Mauricio Guedes, will participate in the opening of the workshop. The first day of programming will also include the official launch of the Pi Center, created by IMPA to enhance and identify opportunities for collaborations with the business sector, as well as presentations from participating companies.
