Workshop that combines mathematics and industry is now open for registration.

With the goal of stimulating dialogue between academia and industry, the Workshop on Mathematical Solutions for Industrial Problems (WSMPI) is back for its 8th edition, taking place from March 7th to 11th. The event is organized by the Center for Mathematical Sciences Applied to Industry (CeMEAI), with support from IMPA and the Brazilian Geophysical Society (SBGf). Registration is open and must be done by filling out the form .
The workshop is aimed at professionals in the productive sector, researchers in mathematics, statistics and computer science and related areas, graduate students and undergraduate students in mathematics. The event will have a hybrid format, with remote participants and the possibility for groups to hold in-person meetings to work on the problems.

Participants will be divided into groups that will dedicate themselves, during the five days of the Workshop, to solving the problems brought by the companies. Americanas SA is one of them, and will bring to the discussion a challenge about detecting price anomalies .
“The Center for Research, Innovation and Dissemination in Mathematical Sciences Applied to Industry (CEPID-CeMEAI) has as its basic objective to promote and foster interdisciplinary cooperation between professionals in mathematical sciences and the productive sector. The Workshops on Mathematical Solutions for Industrial Problems have proven to be an efficient model in bringing universities and industry closer together,” commented the Center's director, José Alberto Cuminato.
The last edition of the event was held by the Pi Center (IMPA Center for Projects and Innovation) in September 2021. Researchers and graduate students from different universities in Brazil came together in a task force to solve real challenges from the companies McKinsey, Shape, Big Data, Carteira Global and Rumo; in addition to problems brought by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Paraíba and the ESALQ Public Policy Group, from USP.
