Women's team selected for the European Girls' Mathematical

The National Committee for Mathematics Olympiads of the SBM announced on Tuesday (30) the four young women selected to represent Brazil in the 7th edition of the European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO), which will be held from April 9 to 15, in Florence (Italy).

The selection of the Brazilian competitors took place during the 21st Olympic Week, held last week (between January 22nd and 27th) in Maceió (AL). The Brazilian team will consist of Ana Beatriz Cavalcante Pires de Castro Studart, from Fortaleza (CE); Mariana Quirino de Oliveira, from Brasília (DF); Débora Tami Yamato, from São Paulo (SP); and Mariana Bigolin Groff, from Frederico Westphalen (RS), all of whom were awarded prizes at the 39th Brazilian Mathematical Olympiad (OBM 2017).

The team will be led by Ana Karoline Borges Carneiro and vice-led by Luíze Mello D'Urso Vianna, both from Rio de Janeiro (RJ).

This will be the second time a Brazilian team has participated in the competition. In 2017, the Brazilian women won two bronze medals — Jamile Falcão Rebouças and Mariana Bigolin Groff — and an honorable mention — Júlia Perdigão Saltiel. Brazil finished second in Latin America in the EGMO team ranking and 26th overall.
