Women's team competes in mathematics olympiad in Kiev.

With their bags packed, the Brazilian Mathematics team embarked this Friday (5) for Kiev (Ukraine), where they will participate in the 8th European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO). The team is made up of Ana Beatriz Cavalcante Pires de Castro Studart, from Fortaleza (CE); Maria Clara de Lacerda Werneck, from Rio de Janeiro (RJ); Mariana Bigolin Groff, from Frederico Westphalen (RS); and Bruna Arisa Shoji Nakamura, from Indaiatuba (SP).

Theteam is led by Deborah Barbosa Alves, from São Paulo (SP), and co-led by Luize Mello D'Urso Vianna, from Rio. Brazil's participation in the 8th edition of EGMO, which will take place between April 7 and 13, was funded by IMPA, SBM, and the schools of the participating students.

“We are very excited for the Olympics. The training was intense, with classes at school, conversations, individual study plans, exercise lists and, of course, a lot of motivation. We have high expectations,” said Deborah.

This is the third time the Brazilian team has participated in the EGMO. In this short period, the country has already won four bronze medals, two silver medals, and one honorable mention . Brazil was invited to participate in the Olympiad after rising to the elite of world mathematics and demonstrating good performance in international competitions.
