The 35th edition of the High School Mathematics Teacher Improvement Program (PAPMEM) broke the record for registrations, with 2,705 participants — a number that surpassed the 2,539 registrations of 2024. The 2025 edition ended this Friday (31), with the application of tests in person and a class for “solving doubts”. Igor Oliveira, postgraduate in mathematics from FAVENI, is participating in PAPMEM for the third time and believes that this is an indispensable opportunity for mathematics teachers. “The PAPMEM program is extremely enriching because it puts us in contact with a more refined mathematics that directly helps us in the classroom. Since I learned about the program, I've already enrolled. The certificates, in addition to enhancing the curriculum, place us on a different level, both mathematically speaking and in education. For me, PAPMEM is a must for any mathematics professional.” In this edition, online classes were taught by professors Paulo Cezar, Luciano Castro, Roberto Cezar, Flávia Landim, Edmilson Motta, Ledo Vaccaro, Pedro Malagutti, and Carlos Gomes. As a professor for some time, but before being a professor I had been coming to IMPA since the beginning of PAPMEM. And every time I come it's wonderful and it was no different now. It makes me want to do more, it's always a gain to be here,” highlighted Vaccaro. At the end of the Q&A session, the project coordinator, Eduardo Wagner, thanked the participants involved in the realization of the 35th edition of PAPMEM. “I want to thank everyone who was here with us, not only in person, but also remotely. I would like to thank very much all the people who make the realization of our PAPMEM possible. This time everything was practically perfect and everything went well. I am very happy about that. I say goodbye to you all hoping that you will all be here again in July. Thank you to each one of you and have a good 2025.” The PAPMEM program , created by the Alagoas professor Elon Lages in 1990, covers topics related to the three years of high school and some from elementary school. The program is aimed at deepening the training of high school mathematics teachers throughout Brazil, promoting current ways of discussing the subject. PAPMEM is open to all teachers in the public and private school systems or to undergraduate students from any area. In addition, the initiative has the participation of institutions and teachers from all over the country.
