Visgraf will offer four online courses in the second semester.

Developing skills in computer graphics has become an important professional differentiator, especially during the pandemic. Starting August 18th , Visgraf (IMPA's Computer Graphics Laboratory) will begin offering four online courses: "Applied Data Science"; "Topics in Parallel Vector Illustration Design"; "Image Processing"; and "Seminar in Computer Graphics". The courses are open to the public and registration is open until September 1Fridays. Click here to register . All sessions will be held via Google Meet.

“We have a special program planned for the second semester, featuring topics that are trending, such as data science; image processing, a trend increasingly observed in companies like Facebook and Microsoft; and techniques used at SIGGRAPH 2020 , the most important computer graphics event in the world,” says Visgraf's lead researcher, Luiz Velho.

The new coronavirus and approaches to data related to the pandemic will be highlighted in the " Applied Data Science " classes. The target audience is students familiar with some programming language or who want to dedicate themselves to the Python language. Students who wish to be evaluated must complete exercises and present a final project. The classes will be taught by Vitor Guerra, a postdoctoral researcher at IMPA, and will have Hallison Paz, a doctoral student at Visgraf, as a monitor. For this course, pre-registration is required at this link . Questions can be sent to vitorgr@impa.br .

To participate in the " Image Processing " classes , it is recommended to have knowledge of algorithms and programming (C, C++, Java, etc.), linear algebra and calculus, and basic notions of graphics and images. The sessions will be held virtually on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM, and will be taught by Luiz Velho. The class topic will be "Deep Video" (deep machine learning for videos). The complete bibliography is already available .

IMPA researcher Diego Nehab will lead the "Topics in Parallel Vector Illustration Drawing" classes. Students will be able to learn firsthand techniques that the professor used in the article " Converting outlined primitives into equivalent filled primitives ," which will be presented at SIGGRAPH 2020. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM.

The "Computer Graphics Seminar" will feature a series of presentations by international guests, organized by Luiz Velho. One of the highlights is "Echoes of SIGGRAPH 2020". Classes will be held every Wednesday from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM. The complete schedule of speakers and topics to be covered can be viewed on the Visgraf website .
