Natália is the daughter of Seu Geraldo and Dona Socorro, a farming couple who live in the rural area of the municipality of Cocal dos Alves, in northern Piauí. Dona Socorro can sign her name and read a few words. Seu Geraldo is illiterate. The couple's eldest daughter has already gone further in her studies than her parents imagined.

"She's going to be someone who has a bright future ahead of her, she's going to have a job in life," says Socorro.

And do you know why Mrs. Socorro can now dream so big? It's because Natália won a gold medal in the last edition of the OBMEP (Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad for Public Schools). For the family, an unbelievable and exciting achievement.

"She won a medal through her own effort. She says it was her own effort, and it really was. She fought hard to win," says Socorro.
