Third edition of the Prolímpico starts this Monday (16)

With the aim of spreading Olympic culture to classrooms across the country and encouraging the training of teachers focused on mathematics competitions, the Olympic Teacher Improvement Program (Prolímpico) is now in its third edition. Adapted to the virtual format, the course will be broadcast free of charge on IMPA's YouTube channel throughout the week. Registration is open until 11:59 pm this Monday (16), through the system available at this link .

Classes begin this Monday and run until August 26th. The program is aimed at teachers and school administrators interested in implementing training programs in their schools or in taking advantage of the benefits that mathematics competitions can bring to their pedagogical projects. The complete schedule is available on the IMPA website. The program coordinators, Samuel Feitosa from UFBA and Krerley Oliveira from UFAL, emphasize that Prolímpico is a pioneer in Brazil in training teachers to prepare students for mathematics competitions.

“Participants from all over the country will be able to connect with teachers who have been developing training programs and organizing competitions for many years, both in Brazil and abroad. The interesting thing about this edition is that the virtual model allows for a greater exchange of information, experiences, and materials between participants and faculty, contributing to the faster dissemination and replication of Olympic activities,” comments coordinator Samuel Feitosa.

The classes cover topics related to mathematics olympiads and will be available daily at 7 pm, Brasília time. The problem-solving and course assessment workshops will take place on Google Classroom, a platform available only to registered participants. On Saturday (21), the webinar “Regional Mathematical Competitions and the Local Olympic Culture” will be open to the public.

To inaugurate the course activities, Professor Carlos Gustavo Moreira will give a keynote lecture this Monday (16), at 3:30 pm. Better known as Gugu, the professor brings to the table several contributions, providing a learning space on the importance of academic competitions.

Participants can choose between Level B (encompassing the 7th, 8th, and 9th grades of Elementary School) and the High School Level, or participate in both modules. All enrolled students who complete the exercises will receive a digital certificate.
