The National Mathematics Festival will be held in Rio in September.

The Tuesdays edition of the National Mathematics Festival (FestMat) already has a date and location. The event will be held at Marina da Glória, in the southern zone of Rio de Janeiro, on September Thursdays, Fridays and 7th. This year, the festival's theme will be "Mathematics is Innovation." After all, it's possible to find concepts from the discipline in all kinds of inventions: from searches on search engines to the management of smart cities.

Under this theme, FestMat will offer a program with workshops, exhibitions, film screenings, lectures, and panel discussions. It will be three days of immersion in mathematics and lots of fun.

“The Mathematics Festival is back, better than ever. In addition to the attractions that made previous editions great successes for all audiences, this year we celebrate the ever-growing connection between mathematics and innovation and technological advancement. The Festival is fantastic!”, said Marcelo Viana, Director-General of IMPA.

Just like last year, the event will offer three days of programming aimed at educational institutions and the general public. The Mathematics Festival aims to show that science is present in our daily lives and can be taught in an easy and fun way. The event is free!

More than 30,000 people have already attended the Festival.

The first two editions of the National Mathematics Festival brought together more than 32,000 people. The first edition of the event took place in 2017, in three locations in Rio de Janeiro, as part of the 2017-2018 Mathematics Biennium, a federal law established to promote and develop education in the country. The festival attracted 18,000 visitors over four days of programming.
