The Mathematics Festival and OBMEP (Brazilian Mathematical Olympiad for Public Schools) are highlighted in the press.

The National Mathematics Festival, which takes place from Thursday (29) to Saturday (1st), at Marina da Glória, in Rio de Janeiro, and the OBMEP (Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad for Public Schools), whose second stage takes place on October 8, were the subject of three reports in the newspaper O Globo and Agência Brasil, between Friday (23) and Monday (26).

Titled 'Mathematics, you beautiful thing: differentiated methods attract students and prepare them for competitions', an article in O Globo showed how each school has been working with the subject and the tools adopted to facilitate teaching and participation in knowledge competitions, "which are an important tool for personal development," the publication highlighted.

The report was published on Sunday (25) and listed workshops, games and other strategies for improving the teaching of Mathematics in institutions.

On Saturday (24), it was the turn of the National Mathematics Festival to secure its space in the newspaper. The “South Zone Neighborhoods” section highlighted the event, which will open its doors to students from public and private schools, as well as to families who register for the festival promoted by IMPA (Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics).

Festival shows that mathematics can be fun and innovative.

Last Friday (23), the Rio section of “O Globo” had already published a report informing about the event’s schedule, which will include 16 lectures, 20 workshops, five roundtables and two theatrical performances for more than ten thousand people.

The newspaper highlighted that the festival's objective is to popularize the science of logical and abstract reasoning through the proposed activities, and emphasized the statement by IMPA's Director-General, Marcelo Viana, regarding the importance of mathematics in the education of citizens.

“Mathematics is very important, not only in the context of science and the productive processes of the national economy, but also in the education of citizens. Therefore, it is very important to bring mathematics to the whole of society, from a playful and demystified point of view, highlighting its appeal and usefulness,” he told Globo.

This Monday (26), the event was also the subject of an article by Agência Brasil , which highlighted the program and IMPA's objective of making Mathematics "easy to understand, fun and playful at the same time".
