The Brazilian team is in Bolivia to compete in the Southern Cone tournament.

The students on the team that will represent Brazil at the 30th Southern Cone Mathematics Olympiad are already in Sucre, Bolivia, to participate in another edition of the competition. The competition, which will take place on August 27th and 28th, includes teams from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay.

The Brazilian team is made up of Enzo Pontes Saraiva de Moraes, from Fortaleza (CE); Olavo Paschoal Longo, from São Paulo (SP); Gustavo Neves da Cruz and Marcelo Machado Lage, both from Belo Horizonte (MG). The tests will be conducted individually, and students will have 4 hours and 30 minutes each day to solve three math problems proposed by participating countries and selected by an international jury. The questions cover subjects such as algebra, number theory, geometry, and combinatorics.

Held since 1988, the competition aims to create opportunities for young people to demonstrate their skills in mathematics, as well as to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and strengthen intercultural contacts among basic education students from Latin American countries.

Since the first edition, Brazilians have won 27 gold medals, 49 silver medals, and 33 bronze medals in the competition. The country has also hosted the Southern Cone Games five times: in 1993 in Petrópolis (RJ); in 1998 in Salvador (BA); in 2002 in Fortaleza (CE); in 2010 in Águas de São Pedro (SP); and last year in Maceió (AL).
