The Behring Foundation-OBMEP Tech Scholarship Supports Medalists in STEM Courses
Applications for the Behring Foundation-OBMEP Tech Scholarship are open through July 23. The initiative offers financial support to medalists of the Brazilian Public School Mathematics Olympiad (OBMEP) who are enrolling in computer science programs at public universities. The program will award up to ten scholarships of R$ 900 per month, with an initial duration of 12 months and the possibility of renewal for up to 60 months, depending on academic performance. The initiative is organized by the Behring Foundation in partnership with OBMEP and aims to support talented young people in gaining admission to and remaining in higher education. Eligible participants include gold, silver, or bronze medalists from any edition of OBMEP with a family income of up to 1.5 times the minimum wage who have been admitted during the first semester of the year in which registration opens to a federal or state public university.
The scholarships are intended for students enrolled in programs such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, Systems Analysis and Development, Information Systems, Bachelor’s Degree in Science and Technology, and other programs related to the computing field.
Selection Process
To apply, candidates must complete the application form and submit the documentation required by the regulations. This includes a letter outlining personal, academic, and professional goals; proof of ENEM scores; academic transcripts; proof of admission to a public university; proof of residence; and documents regarding family income.
Selection will be made by an Evaluation Committee appointed by IMPA’s Executive Board and the Academic Extension Programs Coordination Office. Among the criteria analyzed are academic merit—taking into account performance on the Enem, participation and results in the OBMEP, and academic record—as well as the family’s socioeconomic status and the importance of financial support for the student’s academic and professional trajectory. Candidates will be interviewed, and the results will be announced on August 4 in each participant’s restricted-access area.
