Rio de Janeiro Mayor signs first agreement for the transfer of IMPA Tech.

The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, and the president of the Companhia Carioca de Parcerias e Investimentos (CCPar), Gustavo Guerrante, signed this Thursday (21) the memorandum of understanding for the transfer of the IMPA Tech space, in the city's port area, to the Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA). The signing of the document took place during a meeting at IMPA headquarters with the institute's general director, Marcelo Viana, the deputy director, Jorge Vitório, the administrative manager, Manuela Cervo, and the administrative and financial manager of the new undergraduate course, Francisco Silva.

“Mayor Eduardo Paes visited IMPA, accompanied by secretaries Chicão Bulhões and Renan Ferreirinha and the president of CCPAR, Gustavo Guerrante, to coordinate various aspects of our partnership in building the IMPA Tech project, IMPA's undergraduate program. It was a very productive and promising meeting for the launch of the course in early 2024,” explained Viana. Aline Lombardi, advisor to the president of the Companhia Carioca de Parcerias e Investimentos (CCPar), was also present at the meeting.

At the meeting, IMPA and the Rio de Janeiro city government also discussed the purchase of furniture and equipment for the space, the hiring of a company to manage the warehouse that will also house startups and technology companies, the purchase of apartments that will be available to students from 2025 onwards, as well as defining details about temporary student accommodation for 2024.

About IMPA Tech

IMPA will launch its first undergraduate course next year, IMPA Tech. The Bachelor's degree in Mathematics of Technology and Innovation aims to equip students to effectively enter the job market. Free and innovative, the course will operate in Porto Maravalley, a technology hub developed by the Rio de Janeiro City Hall, in the city's port area, and will share a 10,000 m² warehouse with several companies in the sector.

In total, up to 100 places will be available for students from all over Brazil. This year, the selection process takes into account the performance of students in five knowledge olympiads: OBMEP (Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad for Public Schools), OBM (Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad), OBF (Brazilian Physics Olympiad), OBQ (Brazilian Chemistry Olympiad) and OBI (Brazilian Informatics Olympiad). Students with the best math scores on the ENEM (National High School Exam) can also compete for a place. Registration is open until December 28th. Access the announcement here and register !
