Registration is open for the Elon Lages Lima Award.

If you published works on various areas of Mathematics and Applications between 2010 and last year, pay attention: applications are now open for the Elon Lages Lima Prize. This award is a tribute to the former director and emeritus researcher of IMPA, who dedicated himself to the creation of mathematical literature in the Portuguese language.
Established by the Brazilian Mathematical Society (SBM), in conjunction with the Brazilian Society of Applied and Computational Mathematics (SBMAC), the award aims to promote and encourage national bibliographic production in Mathematics and Applications, intended for the training and dissemination of knowledge in the area.

Brazilian authors, or authors who work professionally in Brazil and have published works in the form of monographs, introductory texts, and preferably textbooks, are eligible to apply.
Registration is open until May 20th. Entries can be submitted by the authors themselves, or by third parties authorized by them, on the SBM and SBMAC websites. The winner receives a diploma certified by SBM and SBMAC and R$ 10,000.
The selection of the artwork will consider criteria such as originality, relevance and depth; clarity and quality of the exhibition; and national or international circulation. Additional information can be found in the call for entries .
The results will be announced by July 22nd on the websites of both societies. The award ceremony will take place during the 32nd Brazilian Mathematics Colloquium, from July 28th to August 2nd, at IMPA.
Elon has written more than 40 books.
Elon Lages Lima (1929-2017), from Alagoas, was one of the most important and prolific authors of mathematics books in the country. He made a fundamental contribution to Brazilian mathematical literature, with more than 40 books, and twice received the Jabuti Prize for Exact Sciences from the Brazilian Book Chamber.
In addition to being a distinguished researcher, Elon understood the importance of disseminating mathematics and training teachers, areas in which he played a leading national role. At IMPA, he conceived and directed the Euclides Project and University Mathematics collections. In 1990, he created PAPMEM (Program for the Training and Improvement of High School Teachers).
