Registration is open for the 'Elisa Frota Pessoa' award.

The Elisa Frota Pessoa competition, which will award the best scientific articles written by women from higher education institutions in the city of Rio de Janeiro, is open for entries until July 30th. The award honors Elisa, a scientist and experimental physicist who was a pioneer of women's participation in Brazilian science. The theme of the competition is the relationship between science and technology in promoting gender equality. Click here to register. 

According to the regulations, the 24 best works will receive a financial prize totaling R$ 170,000, depending on their ranking. Undergraduate, master's, or doctoral students in the fields of Exact Sciences, Biological Sciences, Applied Social Sciences, and Humanities, with active enrollment in higher education institutions in the city of Rio de Janeiro, are eligible to apply. The selected works will also be published in an e-book that will be distributed among universities and research institutions.

OBMEP's biggest national award is highlighted in the press.

“The goal is to bring the city government closer to the universities located in Rio de Janeiro with a policy specifically focused on valuing and giving visibility to women in science and technology. Our mission is to develop actions so that this technological revolution does not represent a deepening of inequalities, but rather an opportunity to reduce them,” emphasizes the Municipal Secretary of Science and Technology, Tatiana Roque.

To be eligible, candidates must meet the requirements of the call for papers . Only academic articles addressing the proposed theme will be accepted. Furthermore, the work cannot have been previously published and must have a maximum of three authors. For more information, please see the regulations .

The articles will be evaluated by a committee of experts, and the awards ceremony will be held on October 19th. The competition is organized by the Museum of Tomorrow, in partnership with the Municipal Secretariat of Science and Technology of Rio de Janeiro.
