Registration is open for the Brazilian Mathematics Colloquium.
Held traditionally every two years since 1957, the Brazilian Mathematics Colloquium is preparing for its first virtual edition due to the coronavirus pandemic. The event is the most comprehensive scientific gathering of the Brazilian mathematical community, with the participation of undergraduate and graduate students, as well as leading researchers from Brazil and around the world. Registration is open, and the event will take place between August 2nd and 6th, with broadcasts on YouTube and Zoom.
“The biggest challenge has been transforming the Colloquium, which is largely based on a large community gathering, into a remote event. But we see that this adaptation can also help us reach a much wider audience, which is encouraging,” points out Carolina Araujo, IMPA researcher and general coordinator of the event.

The novelty this year is the launch of the Colloquium's YouTube channel ( subscribe here ), for those who want to follow the broadcasts and participate in mini-courses that precede the official event. “The 20 courses will be available on the channel a few weeks before the Colloquium. Those registered for the Colloquium will have access to the teaching materials that will be used. And during the congress, they will be able to participate in Zoom discussion rooms about the topics discussed in the video lectures,” explains Carolina.
The 33rd edition of the Colloquium will feature three introductory lectures , six plenary lectures , advanced courses , introductory courses , an Olympic space , and thematic sessions . Certificates will be issued to registered participants. The complete program is available on the IMPA website . Among the speakers are Fields Medalists Martin Hairer, from Imperial College London, and Cédric Villani, from the University of Lyon.
Some of the speakers have already released promotional videos about the courses they will be teaching . Material from previous editions of the Colloquium is also available . Check it out!
