Registration is open for the 3rd Children's Olympics – OBMEP
Registration for the 3rd Children's Olympiad-OBMEP begins this Thursday (2). Promoted by IMPA, the mathematics competition is aimed at students from the 2nd to the 5th year of Elementary School in public and private schools. Registration can be done by educational institutions or education secretariats until June 21st.
In its first two editions, the OBMEP-Mirim brought together 7 million children. According to the general director of IMPA, Marcelo Viana, the scientific competition still has much room to grow. “We are working towards that. The goal is to universalize the Mathematics Olympiad in the Brazilian school environment and bring its benefits to all children and young people.”
The OBMEP Children's Olympiad is held in two phases, both administered by the schools. The first phase takes place on August 27th and consists of a qualifying exam composed of fifteen multiple-choice questions. Students who qualify in this stage will be able to participate in the second phase, on November 12th. This exam also consists of 15 multiple-choice questions.
The content covered in the exam corresponds to the students' grade level, divided into Mirim 1 (2nd and 3rd years of Elementary School) and Mirim 2 (4th and 5th years of Elementary School) levels.
To celebrate the students' achievement, the Junior Olympics will provide digital certificates corresponding to gold, silver, and bronze medals. For more information, see the rules here.
