Registration is open for PAPMEM.

The second edition of this year's Professional Development Program for High School Mathematics Teachers (PAPMEM) is open for registration until July 12th. Classes will take place from July 17th to 21st and will be broadcast on IMPA's YouTube channel . Participants can choose between remote or hybrid participation (with an in-person exam at one of the program's centers). Registration is free and can be done through IMPA's institutional system .

PAPMEM has contributed to improving the training of high school mathematics teachers throughout Brazil. The initiative is open to all teachers in the public and private school systems, as well as undergraduate students from any field.

"The PAPMEM project aims to improve the mathematical knowledge of high school teachers and keep them updated on new topics included in the curricula and the use of technology in education. There will be eight speakers, all with extensive experience and dedication to teaching," highlighted Eduardo Wagner, the project coordinator.

This year's content covers topics such as exponential and logarithmic functions, pattern recognition, magic with combinatorics, among others. The complete course schedule is available on the IMPA website.

During the program, IMPA's YouTube channel will broadcast two classes per day to participants at 9:00 AM. At the end of each class, exercises will be sent via an online form, which must be completed by 10:00 PM on the same day. Responses will count towards attendance and will guarantee the sending of a certificate of participation to the instructors.

Teachers who choose the hybrid modality will receive a certificate of participation based on their performance. In addition to classes, these participants must attend in person on July 21st at the location selected during the application process to take the exam. The assessment will begin at 9:00 AM and will last 1 hour and 40 minutes. PAPMEM has been conducted for over 30 years by IMPA and involves institutions and teachers from all over the country. The program covers topics from all three years of high school and some from elementary school. The initiative has also given rise to a series of books aimed at high school teachers, published by the Brazilian Mathematical Society (SBM) .
