Registration is now open for the 20th OBMEP 2025.

IMPA opened registrations this Wednesday (5) for the 20th edition of OBMEP (Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad for Public Schools) . This year, the country's largest knowledge Olympiad celebrates two decades of encouraging education and discovering mathematical talents throughout Brazil. Registrations are made exclusively by schools on the OBMEP website, www.obmep.org.br until March 17. Municipal, state, federal and private public institutions can participate in OBMEP. The Olympiad brings together more than 18 million students every year from the Fridays grade of Elementary School to the Tuesdays year of High School. “ Since its creation in 2005, OBMEP has played a role in transforming the lives of students and teachers, offering awards and projects that broaden access to knowledge. The 20th edition is a way to celebrate what we have achieved and inspire the future. We hope that the Olympiad will be able to engage a greater number of students each year and bring them closer to mathematics,” highlights the general director of IMPA, Marcelo Viana. OBMEP will distribute 8,450 national medals, including 650 gold, 1,950 silver, and 5,850 bronze, in addition to 51,000 certificates of honorable mention . Students awarded nationally are invited to participate in the Junior Scientific Initiation Program (PIC) as an incentive and promotion of academic development. The initiative offers a scholarship of R$ 300 to participants from public schools that are part of the program. To further encourage student participation, OBMEP will also award students with the best state-level performance. At least 20,500 state medals will be distributed. It is important to note that the state award does not grant access to the PIC (Program for Scientific Initiation). Gold medal for teachers To honor the teachers, who are fundamental to the students' education, the 969 award-winning teachers will receive, in addition to the diploma and support book, a special gold medal. The award-winning teachers will also compete for eight trips: six to the OBMEP 2026 National Award Ceremony and two to the Hilbert Hotel Meeting. How to register Registration is done exclusively by schools, which must fill out the form available on the OBMEP website, provide the MEC/INEP code, and create a password. In the regulations, representatives of the institutions will find all the information about conditions, deadlines, dates, and rules for participation in OBMEP. Click here to access the regulations. The Olympiad takes place in two phases, the first consisting of a multiple-choice test with 20 questions and the second of a written test with 6 questions. The first phase of the OBMEP will be held on June Tuesdays, and those who qualify for the next stage will take the second phase test on October 2Thursdays. The tests are prepared according to the student's grade level: Level 1 (Fridays and 7th grades), Level 2 (8th and 9th grades), and Level 3 (High School). The list of those approved for the second stage will be released on August 1st, and the winners will be announced on December 2Mondays. About OBMEP Created by IMPA in 2005, the competition is promoted with resources from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) and the Ministry of Education (MEC). OBMEP contributes to stimulating the study of mathematics in Brazil, identifying talented young people, and promoting social inclusion through the dissemination of knowledge. Furthermore, the Olympiad aims to improve the quality of basic education, enabling a greater number of Brazilian students to have access to quality educational materials.
