Registration for the Summer Program is now open.

The hottest season of the year begins at 8:22 pm next Friday (21). And, judging by the activities that IMPA has prepared for the first two months of the year, summer promises to be hot.

If you want to take advantage of the holiday period for a study period in one of the world's leading centers for mathematical research, you can now access the online system and register for the 2019 Summer Program.

Open to the IMPA community and to students and researchers from various institutions, the program consists of courses, seminars, and short courses in diverse areas of mathematics.

Renowned professors from IMPA and guest lecturers will lead the activities, which will begin on January 7th and continue until March 1st. The courses are offered at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels.

If you live outside the state of Rio and applied for the scholarship to cover local expenses, the IMPA Teaching Division has already contacted you by email to inform you of the result.

In the Scientific Initiation program, the traditionally most sought-after course, "Analysis on the Real Line," will be taught by Carlos Gustavo Moreira, known as Gugu. There are also options for those interested in "Introduction to Mathematical Economics," by Carolina Parra, and "Introduction to the Theory of Vibrations and Waves," with Alexei Mailybaev.

For those in master's programs, the options increase. Eight courses will be offered: "Markov Chains" (Milton Jara), "Combinatorics I" (Robert Morris), "2D Computer Graphics" (Diego Nehab), "Algebraic Curves" (Karl-Otto Stöhr), "Fundamental Groups and Covering Spaces" (Paulo Sad), "Introduction to Statistical Mechanics" (Hubert Lacoin), "Introduction to Number Theory" (Gugu), and "Introduction to Lie Algebra" (Reimundo Heluani).

If you are a PhD student, get ready because the options are equally tempting. Theodore Drivas, from Princeton University (USA), and Simon Thalabard will teach “An introduction to stochastic differential equations with applications to fluid dynamics”. Also offered will be “Functional Analysis” (Claudio Landim), “Topics in Mathematical Economics” (Aloisio Araujo), “Topics in Dynamical Systems” (Marcelo Viana), and “Differential Topology” (Mikhail Belolipetskiy).
