Registration for the Junior Olympics ends this Friday (16)

There are four days left to register for the OBMEP Children's Olympiad . This is the second edition of the mathematics olympiad aimed at students from the Mondays to the Thursdays grade of elementary school, which this year has new features, such as the inclusion of private schools in the scientific competition. Registration must be done exclusively by educational institutions or education departments through the website olimpiadamirim.obmep.org.br . The deadline is June 1Fridays.

Promoted by IMPA (Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics) , the OBMEP Children's Olympiad aims to transform children's relationship with the subject through playful and creative activities. “The Mondays edition of the Children's Olympiad presents many challenges: sparking children's interest in mathematics, engaging teachers from the early years of elementary school, and increasing school participation. This year, for the first time, we invited private schools to this celebration of mathematics,” explained Claudio Landim, deputy director of IMPA and general coordinator of OBMEP.

Last year, 2.7 million students participated in the OBMEP Children's Olympiad. The competition aims to stimulate and promote the study of mathematics and the professional development of teachers.

Exam dates

The Junior Olympiad (OBMEP) will be held in two phases, both administered by the schools. The first phase takes place on August 28th and consists of a qualifying exam with fifteen multiple-choice questions. Students who qualify will be able to participate in the second phase, on November 9th, also composed of fifteen multiple-choice questions.

The content of the tests corresponds to the students' grade level, divided into levels Mirim 1 (Mondays and Tuesdays years of Elementary School) and Mirim 2 (Wednesdays and Thursdays years of Elementary School).

The Junior Olympics will provide digital certificates corresponding to gold, silver, and bronze medals, in order to celebrate the students' performance. For more information , see the regulations here.

Registrations

To register, the school simply needs to access the website olimpiadamirim.obmep.org.br and use the MEC/INEP code to create a password. Access to the restricted area will be granted using the login (MEC/INEP code) and password created at that time. Registration must be done exclusively by municipal, state, and federal public schools, education secretariats, and private institutions. The person responsible for the application must inform the total number of participants per level: Mirim 1 and Mirim 2. It is not necessary to register each student individually.

Participation is free for public schools, while participation for private schools is contingent upon payment of the registration fee within the deadline. For more information, please consult the regulations here.

The OBMEP Children's Olympiad is an initiative of IMPA with support from B3 Social, CAPES, and CNPq, as well as the Brazilian Mathematical Society (SBM). The competition is promoted by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) and the Ministry of Education (MEC).
