Pro-Olympic Games: Registration open until July 11th

With the goal of stimulating the training of teachers focused on scientific mathematics competitions and spreading Olympic culture throughout classrooms across the country, the Olympic Teacher Improvement Program (PROLÍMPICO) reaches its 9th edition this year. The course will take place between July 15th and 19th and will be broadcast on IMPA's YouTube channel . Registration is open until July 11th through the institute's website.

Held since 2020, the program aims to share specific knowledge with participants and meet a growing demand from Brazilian teachers for teaching methodologies and materials to prepare students for mathematics competitions. To this end, PROLÍMPICO is divided into 4 modules. Level A is aimed at teachers of Elementary School I and covers content from the 3rd to the 5th grade. Level 1 focuses on teachers of Elementary School II, from the 6th and 7th grades; level 2 encompasses teachers from the 8th and 9th grades, and finally, level 3 is aimed at High School teachers. It is possible to register for more than one module.

To participate, registered professors must access IMPA's YouTube channel , watch the lectures, and complete the exercises proposed in the electronic evaluation form, which will be released on July 20th through the event's Google Classroom. The link to join the meeting will be sent by email. Professors who obtain at least 50% of the total grade will be entitled to a certificate of participation.

This year, the program will implement a new type of participant assessment that “will allow for a more precise identification of techniques and content that will require greater reinforcement in teacher training,” explains Samuel Barbosa, one of the program coordinators. “The project also complements other IMPA initiatives, such as PAPMEM ( Program for the Improvement of High School Mathematics Teachers ) and the publications of the OBMEP (Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad for Public Schools) Mathematics Circles , in disseminating tools and solutions to improve basic education in Brazil,” he concluded.

Participating in the 9th edition of the Prolímpico are professors Gabriel Oliveira, Lorena Freitas, Vitoria Aparecida, and Rafael Filipe. The complete schedule will be released soon at this link.

Last year alone, the program received 3,746 applications. This number represented an increase of almost 25% compared to 2022. According to Barbosa, "the virtually total reach of schools through OBMEP and the creation of Olympic-level places in university courses have boosted this interest in training."
