PICME 2021 is open for registration until May 26th.

The Scientific Initiation and Master's Program (PICME) is accepting applications until May 26th. Coordinated by IMPA, PICME annually selects approximately 300 university students who have received medals in the Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad for Public Schools (OBMEP) or the Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad (OBM) to participate in advanced activities in postgraduate mathematics programs at various universities across the country. They receive a scientific initiation grant of R$400.

Medalists who will be entering higher education in 2021 or who are already attending college can participate. Candidates not selected in previous years and former scholarship recipients who meet the prerequisites are also eligible. The conditions are as follows: being regularly enrolled in a higher education course in any field, at public or private institutions, and having received at least one gold, silver, or bronze medal in at least one edition of any of the competitions.

PICME is offered by almost all graduate programs in mathematics recommended by CAPES. Check the list here . It is not necessary to be an undergraduate student at one of the participating institutions to apply for activities offered by them.

The program lasts two years, and scholarships are renewed every 12 months. This depends on student performance, evaluated by their respective universities. Results will be announced in July by the PICME coordinators, who will contact selected students via the email or phone number provided during registration. The program will begin in August.
