Centro Pi opens selection for project in partnership with SUSEP

IMPA, through the Pi Center (IMPA Projects and Innovation Center), has an open call for applications for up to five master’s and doctoral students interested in participating in the project “Sentiment Analysis of Complaints”, developed in partnership with the Superintendence of Private Insurance (SUSEP).

Applications are open until March 15 and must be submitted via the online form available in the notice. The results will be announced by March 20, with activities scheduled to begin on March 23, 2026. The project will run until December 31 of this year.

Coordinated by IMPA project scientists Francisco Ganacim and Daniel Yukimura, the initiative aims to apply advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques to analyze databases of complaints received by SUSEP, including ombudsman records, the platform Consumidor.gov.br and other relevant sources.

The selection will take into account criteria such as academic performance in relevant subjects; experience in industrial projects; participation in academic projects and publications and alignment of interests with the objectives of the initiative.

Students regularly enrolled in master’s or doctoral courses in areas related to the project’s themes, such as probability, machine learning, computer vision, optimal transport, information theory, optimization and algorithms, can apply. For IMPA students, the supervisor’s approval is mandatory. Applications without this approval will be disqualified.

The selected students will carry out scientific activities linked to the project, such as: bibliographical research; development and implementation of methods and algorithms; large-scale data analysis; preparation of technical reports; presentations and seminars. During this period, participants will receive technological development grantat level I or II (master’s or doctorate), throughout the duration of the project.
