Pi Center has a new project scientist.

The IMPA Center for Projects and Innovation (Centro Pi) has announced the results of the selection process for a project scientist position . The position is permanent at the institute. The successful candidate is researcher Lucas Niessenbaum. Activities are scheduled to begin between September and December of this year.
The responsibilities of the position include securing research funding opportunities, coordinating and executing projects with external partners in the field of mathematical sciences, and supervising students during project activities.
Monthly compensation ranges from R $ 11,713.07 to R $ 16,041.70 (gross amounts), to be supplemented with funds from projects carried out by the Pi Center, up to a maximum monthly total between R $ 35,139.22 and R $ 39,293.32 (gross amounts).
The responsibilities of the position may also include preparing reports and technical papers, mentoring students, conducting regular academic master's and doctoral courses, among other activities.
To be eligible, candidates needed to hold a doctorate in mathematics, statistics, data science, operations research, computer science, or other mathematics-related fields. Niessenbaum earned his doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in electrical engineering and computer science.
