The High School Mathematics Teacher Improvement Program (PAPMEM), which began this Monday (23) and runs until January 27, received 2,212 applications from teachers. The number of participants is 23% higher than that recorded last year, when the program received 1,799 applications.

The classes were recorded this month by professors Eduardo Wagner, who is also the program coordinator; Paulo Cezar; Ledo Vaccaro; Pedro Malagutti; Luciano Castro; José Pastore; Flávia Landim and Daniel Cordeiro.

"The participants are extremely interested, and social media is buzzing with discussions about today's problems. In this edition, we will be addressing both traditional topics and topics related to new trends in education, as well as a very modern topic linked to computing. All of us, speakers and participants, are very excited about this edition," Eduardo celebrated when speaking about the start of the program.

Starting this Monday, two video lessons will be made available daily, starting at 9 am, through IMPA's YouTube channel . At the end of each lesson, the program organizers will send a list of exercises in an online form, which must be answered by 10 pm on the same day. The answers will be used to record attendance and guarantee a certificate of participation for all participants, in either a virtual or hybrid format (with an in-person exam at one of the program's centers).

If any participant has questions about the subjects, they must send their questions by Thursday (26) at 2 pm so that the teachers can analyze them. The selected questions will be answered on Friday (27). On the same date, candidates who opted for the hybrid modality must attend in person at the location selected at the time of application to take a test.

Free of charge, PAPMEM was created in 1990 and allows for the improvement of content presented in the classroom, and promotes discussion about modern and efficient ways of teaching and evaluating. The initiative is open to all teachers in the public and private school systems or to undergraduate students from any field.

The program covers selected topics from all three years of high school and some from elementary school. The initiative gave rise to a series of books aimed at high school teachers, published in the Mathematics Teacher Collection of the Brazilian Mathematical Society (SBM) .

With support from the CAPES-FAPERJ program, PAPMEM also inspired the publication of the three volumes of the book "The Mathematics of High School Education" .Videos from previous modules of the program are available.
