The awarding of medals for the Rio de Janeiro State Mathematics Olympiad (OMERJ) brought together students from elementary, middle and higher education levels, at IMPA, on Saturday (23). OMERJ aims to contribute to the improvement of mathematics education, stimulate students and teachers in science and identify talented young people to encourage research.

The students took the test on August 31st. At this stage, they were divided into six levels: junior, for those in 6th or 7th grade; levels 1 to 4, for students from 8th grade to the 3rd year of high school (who are not in undergraduate studies); and level U, for university students. The questions vary according to the participants' grade level and involve topics such as divisibility, prime numbers, powers, logarithmic functions, and calculus, among others.
