Nominations are now open for the 2019 SBM Award.

Nominations are now open for the 2019 SBM Mathematics Prize. Awarded every two years by the Brazilian Mathematical Society during the Brazilian Mathematics Colloquium, it aims to reward the best original research paper in Mathematics recently published by a young researcher residing in Brazil. Nominations may be made by any researcher or professor from a national teaching and research institution.

The SBM Prize was created in 2013 and, in its first edition, was awarded to the extraordinary researcher from IMPA and Fields Medal recipient (2014), Artur Avila. Umberto Hryniewicz (UFRJ) and Pedro Salomão (IME-USP) were awarded in 2015, and Robert Morris (IMPA) in 2017.

Articles published between 2016 and 2019 by researchers or professors who obtained their doctorate in 2004 or later and who have been permanently employed by Brazilian institutions since 2016 or earlier are eligible for the SBM Award. Nominations should be sent to premiosbm@sbm.org.br by February 28, 2019.

The winner is chosen by a jury based on the following parameters: originality, relevance, depth, and potential impact on the development of the respective field. In the 2019 edition, the jury will consist of professors Noga Alon (Tel Aviv and Princeton), Richard Schoen (UC Irvine), Stanislav Smirnov (Geneva), Vaughan Jones (Vanderbilt), and Paolo Piccione (USP).

The winner will receive a diploma, a prize of R$ 20,000, and an invitation to give a plenary lecture at the Brazilian Mathematics Colloquium.
