New IMPA researchers present special lectures.
In four special lectures, held this Friday (31) and next Thursday (6), researchers João Pereira, Felipe Gonçalves, Bruno Braga and Jethro Van Ekeren will present their respective lines of research to the IMPA scientific community. The presentations will take place in auditorium 2.
João Pereira opens Friday's activities with the seminar "Multivariate Method of Moments: From Sample Complexity to Implicit Computations," which takes place at 3:30 PM. The researcher will have the opportunity to present his area of expertise, applied and industrial mathematics, but will also include theories from the pure discipline in his lecture.

Luis Caffarelli is awarded the Abel Prize.
Registration is open for the Brazilian Mathematics Colloquium.
With the lecture “Magic Functions”, also held this Friday at 4:30 pm, Felipe Gonçalves promises to explore challenging problems from different areas of mathematics that were solved through the construction of “magic” functions with restrictions of physical space and/or frequency.
Next Thursday, researcher Bruno de Mendonça Braga will present the lecture "Nonlinear Geometry of Banach Spaces" at 3:30 PM.
On the same day, long-term visiting researcher Jethro Van Ekeren will speak about his specialty, representation theory, in the lecture “Lattices, Algebras and Moonshine,” at 4:30 pm.
