FestMat opens registration for school visits in Rio
O 4th National Math Festival (FestMat) is now open for school visits. This year, public and private schools will be able to take part in the program between August 27 and 28, at Marina da Glória, in the south of Rio de Janeiro. August 29 and 30 will be dedicated to the general public.
Held by IMPA (Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics), FestMat is a free event that invites children, young people and adults to discover mathematics in an interactive, creative way that is connected to everyday life. Held every two years in Rio de Janeiro, the Festival has already established itself as one of the biggest science events in the country.
In this edition, the event reinforces its proposal to unite education, culture and entertainment to bring the public closer to mathematics. With the theme “Math is Pop – Discover the worlds of mathematics”, the Festival adopts the language of comics and invites visitors to immerse themselves in a universe full of playful and interactive experiences. Along the way, the public will be able to explore six themed worlds, with activities linked to algebra, geometry, logic, dynamics, randomness and arithmetic.
To guarantee your school’s participation, principals or teachers should access the official website of the Festival and fill in the registration form. You will need to enter the school’s category (public or private), insert the institution’s INEP or CNPJ code, fill in the unit’s registration details, indicate the person responsible for accompanying the students and choose the date and time of the visit. Confirmed schools will receive a QR Code with the number of students registered.
Each school can take up to 46 people per visit, with the possibility of making up to two appointments. This means that each institution can take part with up to 92 people in total. Transportation to and from the event is the responsibility of the school itself.
Created to bring the public closer to mathematics through playful and interactive experiences, FestMat brings together exhibitions, games, challenges, lectures and artistic performances for all ages. In its last edition, held in 2024, the event broke its attendance record with 20,000 visitors.
