Natal welcomes OBM medalists during the 23rd Olympic Week.
Get ready, Natal, because a group of math whizzes is coming to shake things up in the capital of Rio Grande do Norte. Between January 2Fridays and February 1st, the 2Tuesdays Olympic Week will host medalists from the 2019 41st Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad (OBM) and the 1st edition of the Girls in Mathematics Tournament (TM²) for intensive training and awards ceremonies.
In total, 133 students from elementary, middle and university levels will participate in the event promoted by the Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) and the Brazilian Mathematical Society (SBM). The highlight of the Olympic Week is the OBM and TM² award ceremony on Friday (31), but until then the students will participate in intensive training with classes, study sessions, lectures, simulations and tests. The program was developed by a team of 31 teachers specializing in Olympic mathematics from all over the country.

It is also during the 2Tuesdays Olympic Week that the first selection tests for international mathematics competitions take place. On Tuesday (28), students will take the first test to form the team that will represent Brazil at the Southern Cone Olympiad, in Paraguay, and the Mathematics Olympiad of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (OMCPLP). On the same day, female students will take the test that helps to select the team that will represent Brazil at the European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) 2020, held in Egmond, Netherlands.
EGMO was the inspiration for the creation of the Girls in Mathematics Tournament (TM²), which had its first edition in 2019. The competition's objective is to encourage female participation in scientific olympiads, focusing on mathematics, and to develop a stimulating environment for female students to become interested in the subject.
The 2Tuesdays Olympic Week in Natal has the support of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and the National Institute of Science and Technology of Mathematics (INCTMat), and is sponsored by the financial services fintech company, Stone.
