Mathematicians from over 50 countries will meet at (WM)²
In two weeks, mathematicians from over 50 countries will be in Rio de Janeiro to exchange experiences on advanced studies in the field and discuss the impact of gender disparity in the scientific field, at the World Meeting for Women in Mathematics (WM) 2 . An initiative of the Committee for Women in Mathematics of the International Mathematical Union (IMU) , the event will be held on July 31st at Riocentro. The program includes scientific lectures, discussion groups and posters. Online registration can be done until Friday (20).
A satellite event of the most important world congress of Mathematics, the ICM 2018, to be held at the Riocentro convention center from August 1st to 9th, (WM) 2 will open with the world premiere of the documentary “Journeys of women in mathematics”, produced by the Simons Foundation, in partnership with the IMU Committee of Women in Mathematics.
The event's Organizing Committee also prepared a tribute to Maryam Mirzakhani (1977-2017), the only woman to win the Fields Medal, the highest honor in Mathematics, created in 1937.
