Lula inaugurates IMPA's graduation program this Tuesday (2)

IMPA Tech , the first undergraduate course at the Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) , will be inaugurated this Tuesday (2), in a ceremony attended by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the Ministers of Education, Camilo Santana, and of Science, Technology and Innovation, Luciana Santos, and the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes. The opening will mark the beginning of the first period of the Bachelor's degree in Mathematics of Technology and Innovation. The event will be at the IMPA Tech headquarters, in Porto Maravalley, at 9 am.

“We have the ambition to build a unique school that selects students from among the most talented in Brazil through knowledge olympiads, and offers the best training to face the challenges of technology and innovation today. We want to transform the world through the applications of mathematics,” emphasizes the Director-General of IMPA, Marcelo Viana.

Free and innovative, IMPA Tech aims to equip students with a solid theoretical and practical foundation in the mathematics of technology and innovation, enabling them to succeed in the job market. Strategically located in Porto Maravalley, the city's innovation hub, and housed in a building completely renovated by the Rio de Janeiro city government, students will study in an environment surrounded by startups and technology companies, contributing to the development of new technologies.

With resources from the federal government, the undergraduate program will receive investments of R$ 18.7 million in its first year. To attract students from all over the country, IMPA Tech offers student housing for those over 18 years of age, thanks to a partnership with the Rio de Janeiro City Hall, and financial support.

The student selection process considered performance in five academic olympiads, such as the OBMEP (Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad for Public Schools), the largest in Brazil with over 18 million participants, and the ENEM (National High School Exam) math score, in addition to virtual interviews. IMPA Tech allocates places to general admission and reserves places for candidates from different quota groups.

The four-year Bachelor's degree in Mathematics of Technology and Innovation begins with a basic cycle of one and a half years. Following this, students choose from four specializations: Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, and Physics.

Master Class with André Street and Auana Mattar

The day after the official opening, on Wednesday (3), IMPA Tech will host André Street, co-founder and president of Stone, and Auana Mattar, Chief Information Officer (CIO) of TIM for the Inaugural Lecture. The guests will give talks to students about their career paths, new technologies, entrepreneurship and innovation. The goal is to introduce students to a stimulating environment to create and innovate right from the start.
