The most important international visual computing event held in Brazil paid special tribute to IMPA researcher Luiz Henrique de Figueiredo, who turned 60. Organized by the Brazilian Computer Society, the 35th edition of the Conference on Graphics, Patterns and Images ( SIBGRAPI ) is being held until Thursday (27), in Natal (RN).

“Unfortunately, I couldn’t attend in person due to health limitations. But I watched remotely and it was very moving! It’s a great honor and joy to receive this tribute at SIBGRAPI 2022,” said Luiz Henrique.

Since the conference's inception, Visgraf (IMPA's Computer Graphics Laboratory) has participated in the event, either through its role on the organizing committee or by presenting lectures or scientific papers.

This year, the laboratory has two articles published in the journal Computers & Graphics, one of the most traditional publications in the field, in addition to four articles being presented at the conference. The lead researcher of Visgraf, Luiz Velho, was also honored by the conference on its 60th anniversary in 2016.

"The commemorative event highlighted the recognition of Professor Luiz Henrique de Figueiredo's pioneering work in the areas of computer graphics and applied mathematics. The event at SIBGRAPI 2022, in the form of a workshop, featured presentations addressing the research developed by the honoree and his scientific contributions at different moments of his brilliant career," stated Afonso Paiva, researcher at the University of São Paulo (USP) and organizer of the event.
