Linares and Morris are elected to the Brazilian Academy of Sciences.
IMPA researchers Felipe Linares and Robert Morris were elected to the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC) during the General Assembly held on Wednesday (6). They will take office in 2018, joining IMPA mathematicians who are full or affiliated members of the ABC.
A specialist in Analysis and Partial Differential Equations, and a senior researcher at IMPA, Linares earned his doctorate from Pennsylvania State University and completed postdoctoral studies at the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (1997) in the United States. Starting next year, he will become a full member of the ABC (Brazilian Academy of Sciences).

"My election to the Brazilian Academy of Sciences signifies recognition of the development of Brazilian mathematics and, in particular, of my research area," he stated.
For Linares, being part of the ABC is an extra motivation to develop his work for the benefit of new generations of mathematicians in Brazil. "I feel very honored by this distinction," he rejoices.
Robert Morris, an associate researcher at IMPA and a specialist in Combinatorics and Probability, has accumulated achievements in 2017, having won the MCA Prize at the Congress of Mathematicians of the Americas in Canada, and the 2017 Brazilian Mathematical Society Prize. He was elected an affiliated member of the ABC for the period 2018-2022.
